From March of 2006, daily online video usage in the U.S. has risen by 56 percent, according to a survey conducted in March 2007 by Magid Media Futures.
With users from the ages of 12 to 64, video viewing in the U.S. has increased from 9 percent to 14 percent since last year.
Online video has also increased in usage weekly with the same age group using online video at least once a week or more. Last year 44 percent viewed online video once a week, now that has risen to 52 percent in 2007.
Of younger males 18 - 24, thirty five percent watch online video at least once a day, and a full 80 percent say they watch at least once a week. Of females in the same age group, 53 percent say they watch online video weekly.
It may surprise some, but online video usage in the U.S. is watched most for news, with 33 percent of Americans watching video online news on a consistent basis.
The second most-watched video content was virtually tied between weather, movies and humor.
Not too far behind these categories were user-generated and music videos at video upload sites.
Online video content is becoming far more used than just looking at the short clips put up on YouTube and other types of upload sites. We're still a little way from the long-form professional videos being accepted more, but as the technology continues to advance, and the computer and TV become more interchangeable, these statistics will skyrocket.
