Employment for online media has reached the 40,000 mark for the first time since 2001. According to the bureau of Labor Statistics, it now stands at 40,100 as of April, although still below the high of 51,300 of July 2000. U.S. media companies added 5,000 jobs for the year ending March 2007.
Some of the statistics according to Marketingcharts.com were:
Internet media added 5,300 jobs, a 15.8% increase.
TV added 4,300, up 2%
Radio added 3,100, up 2.8%
Magazines added 2,100, up 1.5%
Newspapers cut 9,800 jobs, down 2.7%
Overall, media jobs connected to the Internet in the U.S. accounts for 4.4 percent of all media jobs in the country. In reality they're probably much higher than that as the statistics exclude search-engine companies and those employed by traditional media but work for them on the Internet.
