The latest organizations suing YouTube and Google (GOOG) include Federation Francaise de Tennis (France's tennis federation), Ligue de Football Professione (French Soccer League) and Cherry Lane Music Publishing Co. They join England's Football Association Premier League Ltd. and others in lawsuits against YouTube for posting of copyrighted material on the Internet video site without permission.
"We are pleased to see other copyright holders joining us in what we are trying to achieve," said Dan Johnson, a Premier League spokesman, in a statement.
Cherry Lane Music Publishing owns the rights to artists like Quincy Jones and Elvis Presley.
Viacom (VIA-B) has also sued Google for $1 billion for over 160,000 clips posted without authorization.
Google claims they aren't liable for the actions of its users.
One way or the other I'd like to see one of these cases go forward and a legal resolution come forth. All of this is pretty much meaningless until it goes to court and a decision for one of the organizations is made.
Lawsuits are going to continue to increase until some type of court decision for those suing is made - one way or the other.
