In a move to promote music from other countries and languages, Apple iTunes (AAPL) is now offering a new feature called Foreign Exchange.
How it works is it brings together artists from different countries who agree to translate each others music in their native tongues.
"The idea is exposing people to bands they may not listen to," former Blink-182 member Mark Hoppus said. "In America, we don't really listen to music in other languages. I think it's a cool idea to get people to open their ears to music from different parts of the world."
Hoppus and fellow Blink-182 artist Travis Barker, now +44 will translate and cover German act Wir Sind Helden and their song, "Guten Tag," while the German band
will do +44's "When Your Heart Stops Beating."
With iTunes reaching into 22 countries, it makes sense to cross-promote the numerous songs that otherwise wouldn't get any playtime or exposure anywhere else. iTunes will exclusively offer the translations and originals from both artists.
