The industrial online sector is going in pretty much the same overall direction that most other businesses are. In a survey from GlobalSpec called the 2007 Industrial Marketing Trends Survey it found that industrial businesses will allocate a larger portion of their budgets to online marketing this year.
Of those responding, 55 percent said they will be spending more this year on marketing than they did in 2006. A small 10 percent said they wouldn't be spending as much.
For online marketing, 61 percent said they would be increasing their marketing spend for 2007.
What isn't catching on in the industrial online market is social media. Less than 10 percent said they will increase spending on blogs or podcasts in 2007.
Almost 75 percent of those reponding said the major goal for marketing this year is either lead generation or customer acquisition. The survey also found that over 90 percent of engineers use the Internet to find suppliers or needed components, while spending over 6 hours weekly online for work-related reasons.
