Clearwire announced that it has signed deals with satellite TV providers DirecTV (DTV) and Echostar (DISH), which will enable them to offer high-speed internet services to their customers. It's a bid to become more competitive with the cable companies' triple-play option.
Clearwire currently operates in 11 states, where it offers wireless access to the Internet. In any of the states Clearwire serves, Echostar or DirecTV will be able to offer the service as part of a package deal. In the near future three more states will be included as an option.
While the satellite companies will be able to offer wireless Internet access, Clearwire will also be able to offer satellite services to their customers for their end of the deal.
The bundled services are set to be offered later in 2007.
