Blinkx Launching an Adsense For Video?

The idea of launching an "Adsense" for video isn't new, it's been asserted before. Even so, Blinkx (BLNX.L), a video search engine says it finishing up on its new Internet video advertising project they've code-named Project Trilby. On Monday when it launches, its operational name will be AdHoc.

Blinkx CEO Suranga Chandratillake says concerning making ads relevant on Web video advertising: "You need something akin to AdSense for video, which is what we have built."

What the new service will offer is an opportunity to embed targeted ads in Internet videos or alongside of them, in conjunction with words that are specifically said in the video and in the general context of the video also.

A nice feature of the service will be the abilty for online video producers to send their creations to blinkx so they are indexed. Once that is completed, if somebody watches the video ad included, it will be measured.

blinkx%20new%20adsense%20for%20online%20video.jpgWhile this will be the next big thing in online advertising, it's far from being determined who or what will win out. The idea of using searchable speech-to-text technology and clustering as part of the equation going forward is a smart move by blinkx, or anybody entering this space.

All of this is interesting, but far from standards being implemented. The entire online video space is up for grabs, and this is one step that will probably be part of where it all ends up.

What has been missing in a lot of the online video space has been those willing to take some risks to see what will work. We hear about the concerns for disrupting viewers, but not too many people have tried it enough to see it that assumption is true. Some viewers have said they're willing to accept in-video ads in exchange for viewing them free.

We continue to hear about a number of endless theories, it's time to simply try out what's available in its current variety and work toward what brings the best results for everyone.

Possibly the most important part of this announcement is the growing of the overall online video advertising market itself.
