
The BBC is broadcasting a show in Second Life that will be devoted to the virtual economy within it. It will deal with the various ways that people have been making real money from it.
Second Life has a currency within the world called Linden dollars, which a number of virtual businesses can earn in a variety of ways. Some sell clothing for the characters in the world which are represented as avatars. Others hold down literal virtual jobs in the world. And there is the many real world companies that have taken up a presence in the world as well.
The virtual world also has their own stock exchange where your Linden dollars can be exchanged for real cash.
The Money Programme, a popular business and finance show in Britain, will be simulcast in Second life and on traditional TV for the first time.
This specific episode will have reporter Max Flint talking about what he has found concerning the various way of making money in Second life, Lord of the Rings Online and some other means of monetization.
It will be seen in Second Life at the Rivers Run Red Cinema (coordinates 200, 123, 45) at 7 p.m., 8 p.m. and 9 p.m. British Summer Time.
