With the Atlantic Coast hurricane season being officially upon us, Ace Hardware has tapped into WeatherBug’s “Hurricane Command Center" to sponsor the Website during the heavily visited hurricane season.
Ace has been increasingly active in the online marketing space, recognizing how it can stretch your ad dollars much further than other mediums. They've doubled their online marketing budget over the last year.
Of course with the weather center, Ace Hardware is hoping to get great exposure as people click to the meteorology site frequently during the storm season.
The ads on the site themselves are pretty well done, as when you click on them a box slide down or out with a scrolling checklist of the supplies you need to prepare for a storm. Their tagline is "Are you prepared for hurricane season?" which when you mouse over it the scroll activates. An Ace store-locator function links to the company website also.
Ace has been employing a strong local strategy and as Adam Davis, media group supervisor for Horizon Interactive, agency for the sponsorship said, “We chose this opportunity because it was perfectly tailored to Ace’s overarching strategy to be as local as possible [in its marketing efforts]. Whenever a user views any impending hurricane information on WeatherBug, they’ll be reminded that their nearest Ace [Hardware store] is within three miles of home.”
With the National Oceanic Atmospheric Administration saying there will be between 13 to 17 "named" storms this season, there will be an expected 10 million impressions from June 1 to September 30.
Ace Hardware is also advertising on AOL and across a number of e-commerce and news media sites.
