This article in the Wall Street Journal shows a growing trend that I don't think will go away any time soon. While the topic was the growing interest in people getting married and telling their story of going through the process from the time of the proposal to eating the wedding cake, it goes across all types of categories. These wedding Web sites are starting to be called "Wed sites."
There are a number of these types of categories that have become popular online, as people love to follow the stories of other people going through their particular processes in different areas.
Another one I've seen growing in popularity are blogs that are connected to someone going through the stages of their financial investing. While many of them are very basic and the investors don't know an awful lot about investing, it's interesting to see them report on what they're doing and the results of their decisions.
A number of people across many different categories are opening their lives up for others to see, and have developed pretty good followings that they are able to monetize.
There's a an almost endless amount of topics of interest that people could offer to attract visitors to. There is something comforting and attractive to people that have interests in a certain topic, to watch someone else go through the different stages of the growing pains in it. Sometimes more can be learned from the successes and failures being discussed than simply writing about things that haven't been experienced.
The idea is this could definitely be a way of making money online that could be tapped into; not only individually, but possibly through sites of interest that are connected by topic. It can be done individually or by a group of people. Either way, for online marketers of certain niche categories, this could be an excellent idea and source of income to take a look at partaking in.
While this might simply sound like it's a blog, it's a blog of a specific type that is created with a focus on people that like to read about the personal life and journey of people that share the same interests. It's a blog or web site with that little twist.
The sites that do well are very open and honest, and tell the real story of what is going on. It's more of a linear, day-by-day unveiling, rather than just a bunch of stuff written with no connection. It's like watching a story unfold that people can't wait till the next day to find out what happens. That's the type of Web site or blog that draws a large audience.
If you're made this way, it's an excellent online space worth checking out.
