With Sony (SNE) taking a beating over its image as a leading high-tech company, they now at least have some bragging rights again as they showed of a recent flexible TV screen that is .01 inch think and can present full-color video.
The new video TV screen can be rolled up, bent or even dropped without worry that it will break.
Sony hasn't decided which direction to take the technology yet, but Sony spokesman Chisato Kitsukawa said, "In the future, it could get wrapped around a lamppost or a person's wrist, even worn as clothing. Perhaps it can be put up like wallpaper."
Some of the remaining challenges for the technology are cutting costs, making a larger display and ensuring durability, said Tatsuo Mori, an engineering and computer science professor at Nagoya University.
With a number of analysts and people in the business world believing Sony had lost some of its leading edge, Sony President Ryoji Chubachi believes this will do a lot to bring the company back as a leading innovator in the tech industry.
