In what Hitwise is calling the "Silver Surfers," they are about to become the largest online demographic in the U.K., according to a report on their blog. "Silver Surfers" are referring to those age 55 or older.
At this time, those 55 or older account for 22 percent of all Internet visits in the U.K., up by 54 percent from 2005, and 40 percent from 2006. That's just shy of the 23.5 percent in the 25-44 age range.
"Silver Surfers" prefer to visit sites made with adults in mind, classified sections and shopping. They also like to hang around the travel, leisure, and news sites.
For travel websites, they account for 27 percent of all visitors, and for news sites they represent 24 percent.
If you were to check out the cruise sites though, they get much stronger as they are 48 percent of the online traffic there.
While the U.K. seniors come from all different income levels, those with more income do go online more frequently.
