This week Turner Classic Movies launched an Internet video channel dedicated to their portfolio of classic films.
At the time of launch the site had over 3,000 shortform video clips; including trailers, movie and short films.
"We are offering a customizable, uncluttered, cinematic user interface that re-creates the effect of a theater experience," said Richard Steiner, vp new media at TNT, TBS and TCM. "It's a unique experience, one that demonstrates TCM's
continued commitment as curators of classic film."
Included with the shortform video will be complete films as well, with the 1937 romantic comedy "Living on Love," already up to be viewed. The company said it would have other titles like "A Man to Remember," "Double Harness" and "Rafter Romance" in the near future.
The initiative called "Media Room," will empower users to search for specific content of interest via the names of actors, filmmakers and directors. People will also be able to develop their own, unique playlists.
I do like how they've started it off with shorter clips, while including a smaller amount of full-length film. This should become a popular destination for classic film fans.
There will probably be limitations based on making it more of a portal than being offered across various Web destinations. Maybe they'll expand it in the future.
