Research reveals that social networking sites are being increasingly used in the prime-time hours of the day. The survey also shows that over 70 percent of Americans 15-34 interact on social networks, says MarketingCharts.
Taking into account campaigns run by Electronic Arts (ERTS) and Adidas on MySpace (NWS-A), it was found that 70 percent of the return on investment for their efforts came from their messages going viral and being shared between "friends."
Another 40 percent of those using social networks added they learn about brands and products they like on the sites, while 28 percent said they get brand or product information from friends. Respondents also said that they prefer using social networks to watching television, and is equal to cell phone use.
The majority, 69 percent, said that they use the networks to connect with current friend, and 41 percent use them to stay in connection with family members.
Users said they spend an average of 7 hours a week online.
