Joost has officially launched today, and along with their existing content providers added a few new ones as well.
In addition to their established deals with Viacom (VIA-B), National Geographic, Endemol and Warner Music, the company has now added newcomers in Turner Broadcasting, which will include CNN, Hasbro, Sony Pictures Television, Adult Swim, The Cartoon Network, the NHL and Sports Illustrated.
"Online distribution is extremely important to Turner," said Dennis Quinn, executive vice president of business development for Turner Broadcasting System. "With Joost we are confident that our programming is secure and distributed in the high-quality format that is true to our brands."
Joost is differentiating itself by focusing on long-form, ad-supported professional video rather than the short-form, amateur video that is being offered up by most
other video streaming sites.
Niklas Zennstrom and Janus Friis are Joost's founders, and also the creators of Skype and Kazaa.
