A report from a British news source says that Google (GOOG) has reached a deal with a few large UK news groups to license their content through Google News.
Evidently it has been kept extremely quiet because of concern that other news services will want to be paid for their content. Google aggregates about 4,500 news services.
This was bound to happen when Google lost the case in February with the Belgian press. They also reached an out-of-court settlement with France-Presse, a French news wire service.
There are also increasing rumblings from the newspaper industry about getting a piece of the action as well.
It looks like there will be a continuing string of deals, lawsuits and settlements with the search giant. At this time it doesn't seem to be slowing them down as
they continue to make acquisitions to extend their business services.
If these types of deals continue on, it could start to cut into their profit margins as the search content continues to increase its costs of doing business. It's going to be a long, ongoing process they will have to continue working through. It isn't going to go away any time soon.
