In early May Google revealed its new technology called Google Translate, built to offer those who don't speak English a chance to search for content on the English Internet. At the time they showed the technology, there was no hint about the launch date.
The week Google announced in a press release that it was now operational.
It currently works for 12 languages: English, Arabic, French, Italian, German, Spanish, Portuguese, Russian, Japanese, Korean, Chinese (Traditional), and Chinese (Simplified).
Those from other countries that have used it are saying that it's helpful, but still has a lot of things that will need to be worked out of it over time. Of course that's
to be expected with machine translations.
Google is looking for translators to expand beyond the existing languages. That seems to me a place where a Wiki would really work good.
