E-mail has been one of AOL's strengths as it still accounts for 52 percent of all page views on its sites.
To make the service even more effective the company is about to launch a new e-mail service toward the end of July that will be displayed all across its Internet portal page. It is now in the testing stage and will include the AIM instant messaging platform.
In speaking to the Reuters Global Technology, Media and Telecoms Summit in New York, CEO Randy Falco said, "I thought we were a couple of generations behind our customers on a very important product."
He also said the company will be working on improving its news, sports and social networking services.
For their growth they're planning on a aggressive into global markets. They are set to launch new Web portals in 14 countries over the next 18 months.
AOL already launched portals in the Netherlands, Austria and India this year, and are set to release new versions in the UK, Germany and France.
This is a good reminder on the importance of e-mail marketing and its power to drive online traffic.
