With "The Sims" being one of the more popular of Electronic Art's (ERTS) franchises, 20th Century Fox (NWS-A) believes it can turn it into a successful movie, as they acquired the rights for the computer game. "The Sims" and its sequels have sold over 85 million copies.
"The Sims" was created by game designer Will Wright, who is known for creating worlds that players can create and explore in a non-linear way.
"The Sims has done an interactive version of an old story, which is what it's like to have infinite power and how do you deal with it," said Rod Humble, head of The Sims Studio at EA.
If 20th Century Fox goes ahead with the project, it will be interesting to see where they take it, as in the usual "Sims" world users have to do a number of things like buying the right stuff, making friends and getting good jobs to keep them happy.
