Disney (DIS) has created a virtual classroom called the Disney Family Learning Center, built for the purpose of showing moms how to use technology in their everyday lives.
The site will be presented by Sony (SNE) which has created a number of self-paced courses ranging from digital photography, coverting videotapes to DVD and entrepreneurship; among many others. The courses offered will be for a set time where at the completion date others will take their place.
Emily Smith, vice president in charge of Disney Family.com said in a press release, "The Disney Family Learning Center provides moms with an easy and convenient way to find practical uses for technology in their daily lives -- everything from preserving their family's memories through digital photography or videos, to tips for finding balance in their lives. We're pleased to collaborate with Sony Electronics to offer this valuable resource to our Disney Family.com community members."
Included with the courses will be recommended products that relate to the course material.
"We are taking a very comprehensive, organic approach to our collaboration with The Walt Disney Internet Group on Disney Family.com," said Barbara Miller, director of corporate Web Services at Sony Electronics. "Our team is focused entirely on moms' technology needs and how Sony can add value to them in a relevant way."An important lesson in all of this is the proven concept of using "consumer education" as a branding tool. Not only is it positive for the brand, but it also motivates people to share the experience with their friends, to give a viral effect also.
Offering people certain types of educational lessons related to our brands and products is an excellent marketing tool, while giving our customers a very positive experience they relate to the brand and want to share with others. It should be part of our online arsenal.
