At recent study by Motorola (MOT) shows that close to half of all Europeans use the Internet to watch television shows.
While control of watching what they want when they want is still a key factor in the growing practice, the ability to pause, rewind and fast-forward is also an important part of the equation.
Another 57 percent want to be able to go online while watching a live broadcast to access things like sports-related statistics, or when prompted by products they want, to be able to check out stores while it's fresh in their minds.
The leaders in going online to watch television were the French, with 59 percent preferring the practice; the Italians came in second and the British third. German viewers only watched online TV at a 33 percent clip, preferring traditional scheduling at this time.
"These results show that viewers across Europe are no longer satisfied with fitting into schedules dictated by broadcasters and are turning to the choice and
flexibility offered by TV over the internet," says Karl Elliott, Marketing Director for EMEA within Motorola's Connected Home Solutions division. "We are witnessing a nation of citizen schedulers who are in control of their entertainment, allowing them to decide not only what they watch, but exactly how and when they want to watch it."
