Comcast (CMCSA), through their subsidiary thePlatform, has released a new product that empowers companies to build their own customized video players for their cellphones or Web sites.
This isn't a new company as thePlatform has been managing online video for a number of key companies like Verizon Wireless (VZ), CNBC (GE) and ABC News (DIS).
The product is software called mpsPresent, which offers a variety of online video players that can be used on a Web site. They can be customized to include your color scheme and even a specific theme. It can also be used to enable your customers to download audio or video as well.
Ian Blaine, thePlatform's chief executive said that "It's no longer good enough to just put video up. You have to build an immersive experience for it."
Agreeing with this was Mike Wolf, director of digital media research for ABI Research, who said "The day of having one ubiquitous Flash player or one ubiquitous Windows Media player is over."
The company says that the software will help companies during this time when online video players are becoming more specialized and complex.
Some of the benefits it offers:
* Quickly publish a video player
* With an easy-to-use interface, picking a layout, style, and subscribing to a media feed is easy and quick.
* Video producers and editors can create a branded experience by adding a logo and matching their corporate color scheme.
* The player is hosted by thePlatform, and can easily be added a site or provide a link to affiliate sites.
* Build on designs that come with the development kit, and tailor them for your site or customize them for affiliate sites.
* The client application supports downloads with status and file management. If a download is stopped, it can be picked back up from where it left off.
* Predefined Adobe Flash controls help Flash developers quickly create a unique broadband channel. Advanced Flash users can even create their own player controls
* The Media Manager operates as a headless service, allowing you to create or support your unique desktop player for end users. Designed for any home playback scenario, the Media Manager works well with Windows Media Center.
* Use affiliate player tools to create and control branded players for various properties. UIEvolution can create a compelling, easy-to-use mobile video playback interface.
