By all measurements, the blogosphere has been exploding in growth, with the only question being how long it would continue. Citing the "State of the Live Web" from Internet search engine company Technorati, an AFP report said that the growth of blogs is definitely starting to cool off.
David Sifry, Technorati's founder said that while the doubling of the size of the
blogoshere was happening every six months, now it is doubling at a once-a-year rate.
Still, growth has remained phenomenal as in March of 2005 the worldwide blog count was at 8 million, while as of March of 2007 it has exploded to 72 million. Another finding of the company was that daily blog posting have increased from 500,000 in March of 2005 to 1.4 million a day as of last month. That equals 58,000 hourly posts around the world.
While the growth is definitely slowing down, Sifry added that it is really impossible to accurately measure the worldwide blogging participants as some countries aren't in the Technorati database and the tools and platforms used in different countries make them unable to be tracked.Even with the slowing down of growth, doubling in size every year still isn't something to be scoffed at no matter what industry one may be in. Blogging is still a long way from plateauing.
