With the launch of their new tool called MovieConnect, Pointroll is offering consumers the opportunity to receive text messages concerning local movies and the times they'll be playing. It also adds another tool to the studios to remind people of their offerings.
"We're adding a feature that enables people to opt-in to receive a showtime through an SMS [short message service] text message," said Neil Fried, manager of business development and strategy, PointRoll. "One of the problems is a film is promoted three to four weeks ahead but showtimes are revealed maybe three or four days before the actual release."
Pointroll worked with wireless and online ad firm The Aura Group to build the application. Consumers will be able to opt in and receive showtimes and other theater information sent to their wireless devices from an online ad.
The overall purpose of MovieConnect offer up targeted local marketing opportunities that can be used by theaters and studios to increase ticket sales and measure the way consumers respond to and interact with the information provided.
