
Citing a Harris Interactive and Marketing Workshop survey, CRM2Day said that for the first time online bill payments have surpassed payments by check.
Checks that have been sent via the mail has decreased by 4 percent to 34 percent of the total volume. Online payments on the other hand grew by 4 percent to grow to 39 percent of bill payments.
The key reasons for consumers increasingly using online payment methods is convenience, savings and increasing confidence in online security.
"Once considered a nice-to-have add-on, online bill payment is now the foundation of the Web banking user experience,” said Gwenn Bezard, research director with Aite Group. “I expect further growth in this area due to Generation Y's greater reliance on technology in their everyday lives as they move into early adulthood, and the increasing adoption of electronic bills..."
This is good news for any online marketer. When the confidence in doing online transactions grows, it should continue to show on our bottom line as people make more impulse shopping decisions in confidence, along with normal purchasing as well.
