Joost will be officially debuted later this year. In talking about it, one writer mentions about some of the details of how it will be monetized.
He says: "Joost says no more than three minutes of advertising will be placed in any hour-long program stream. Also, a single advertiser will sponsor each stream. Consumers will be unable to skip commercials - a restriction that ABC and others employ when streaming from their own sites."
For getting our message across and breaking through the clutter, I know that sponsorship is an excellent way of getting our marketing or branding message out there.
This doesn't work good for the growing online video industry alone, but it could be used across many mediums. For example the blog network I write within has sponsorships available across many different business categories. And you could find this in many other networks, individual blogs and Web sites as well.
I think it's really worth checking into concerning marketing online, as far as putting your message on some of these growing sites that are very niche oriented and targeted to certain audiences. The network or blogger has already attracted the audience, all we have to do is sponsor them. The content provider or aggregator has done the hard work.
Sponsorships can be sole or put in the better position on virtual real estate in comparison to other marketers. This could be done across several different networks, blogs or websites in a variety of creative ways that could be measured to see how it is performing.
The biggest decision is whether you're trying to brand or are doing direct response marketing. That will determine what your message is and where it will be put.
The key to success is matching up your core values and purpose with the content provider. If that is done properly, the results, over a period of time, should really be positive. Sponsorship is a great way to market to the people that are eagerly looking for what you have to offer.
