
Fox Television (NWS-A) is getting together with Hearst Magazines to take popular magazine titles and create broadband series' around them. The two said that they would eventually bring them to the TV screen.
They are starting off with Popular Mechanics and CosmoGirl to make the short-form webisodes which will be in two- to thre-minute segments, which will be streamed on the Web sites of each magazine. They are also looking get the webisodes on the large web portals as well.
The CosmoGirl project is further along at this time with as it will made as a serialized soap, with viewers asked to give their thoughts and guide how the next
episode will go. The specifics for the Popular Mechanics webisodes haven't been decided yet. A date for launch has yet to be determined.
This is Fox Studios' first effort into broadband. The two companies will split any revenue generated 50-50. If the projects take off, they're looking at bringing more content to the web and to television.
