A study by Epsilon, a marketing service company, confirms that email marketing continues to be a powerful part of the online marketing world.
New data from their survey shows that 84 percent of those asked said they have clicked-through to offers that were relevant to their interests. Another 73 percent claimed that they that they've made an online purchase in response to offers they had an interest in.
"Consumers are attesting to the power of email marketing - they trust it, they respond to it, and they take proactive steps to ensure that they get messages from companies they do business with," said Ragy Thomas, head of Epsilon´s
Interactive Services group.
Another finding of the survey revealed that 86 percent of those reading email marketing messages then made purchases in-store as a result of the email offer.
With over 50 percent of email recipients forwarding messages to their friends and 78 percent adding email marketers to their address books, Thomas added that “Email marketers must continue to strive for relevance and take the initiative to ensure that their messages reach their customers, and are welcomed by their customers, and inspire their customers to become brand advocates.”
One thing we all must be careful of in our marketing is just because a lot of press is given to the more "sexy" Internet subjects like online video, doesn't mean that they're the best way to market at this time.
Email marketing doesn't get a lot of coverage because it's not that exciting of a tool to write or read about. But who cares? It's still one of the best ways to market online there is. This study simply reinforces that again.
