The largest airline carrier in Brazil has now landed in Second Life as it announced that it will become the first airline to promote itself there through flights within the virtual world that align with their real world service. Brazil TAM has 51.7 percent of the Brazil airline market.
TAM said that the way they'll do is offer users' avatars gifts to participate in the flights in the virtual world to other islands named after New York, Milan, England and Paris. They are the actual destinations the airline will fly to in the real world.
"Of course, avatars can fly there on their own, or we can take them there, free of charge, for which they get frequent flier points and gifts like a virtual aircraft or clothes. It's more of an institutional marketing tool, for people to learn about the airline's destinations, and for us to be present in this new online fever," a company spokesman said.
There will be a lounge set up by the company on Berrini Island where the avatars will be greeted by a flight attendant and a pilot.
Second Life is popular among Brazilians as they are the fourth largest represented country in the virtual world, with 200,000 from that country using it.
