According to a TNS Media Intelligence report, Internet display advertising increased by a healthy 17.3 percent in 2006, to reach a total of $9.76 billion. For all ad spending the report said it increased by 4.1 percent for the year, with Internet display ads accounting for 6.5 percent of the total - which was $149.6 billion.
For larger Internet marketers, they put 15 percent of their ad budget inot Internet display ads, about double the market average.
Jon Swallen, senior vice president of research for TNS Media Intelligence said that "Within the Internet space, what continues to be interesting is the disparity in share going to the Internet with disproportionate growth coming from mid-size and smaller advertisers and less from the Top 50."
What he's saying is that while the top 50 advertisers account for one-third of overall measured ad spending, from the percentage viewpoint, smaller advertisers
spend 2 percent of their budgets over the larger ones.
The leading display advertiser leader continues to be financial services, which accounts for 17 percent of Internet display ad spending. Spending in the media space is at 13.7 percent.
Total ad spending for 2007 is projected to grow at 2.6 percent.
