In a bid to enlarge its local business customer base, Google has added some new features to help businesses. With offering these new features, Google is hoping to help local businesses understand the importance of reaching their customer through the Internet. Many small businesses don't use the Internet, thinking it's primarily for larger regional, national or international businesses. That's a mistake on their part.
Brandon McCormick, a spokesman for Google said that "For the small local business the most important thing is understanding their customers are looking for business services online. And if they're not online, they are not going to be found by their customers. Our goal is to get good local information. It's completely free to the consumer. There's not advertising tied directly to this."
Some of the new features offered will some ability to edit locations on Google Maps, in case the location isn't correct. There will also be some statistics provided on how many clicks and impressions a business is receiving on Google Maps.
Another simple feature added will be the ability for a person post images via a Photo Upload so that it can be inserted next to their business listing.
McCormick added that all the new features will remain free to use.
