Michael Eisner likes what the Internet represents and has been getting into it in a number of ways. His latest endeavor is the creation of studio for the purpose of producing Internet-specific video for distribution online.
His studio called, Vuguru, has its first project in the works called "Prom Queen" which will be a scripted mystery that will entail 80 episodes 90 seconds long each. It's about the last two weeks of high school with a "blend of love, gossip, and betrayal."
It is set to premiere on April 2 and can be watched at PromQueen.tv, Ellegirl.com and YouTube. Veoh Networks which was partially financed by Eisner's investment company Tornante will also air the online show.
Eisner said that Vuguru will be focused on producing original online programming, which he believes is still in its infancy.
From here he plans on extending the length of the videos to five minutes and then to seven, to experiment to see what will work best.
When asked Eisner said that it would be possible for the company to create full length feature films through the newly created company. That seems to be down the road though.
What I like about this is the different lengths of film that the company will experiment with. So far it seems that the majority of online video watchers want their content in shorter clips. It would be worthwhile watching to see what works and doesn't with Eisner and Vuguru.
Another important thing about this to me is offering original content in short-form. Not too many people are doing that at this time with professionally made content. It will be interesting to see if it flies with people. I think should do pretty good, as I've watched some online stories in the 2-3 minute range and really liked the length and it was interesting as well. I came back to see how it all came together.
