It ends up that the Oscar winner "West Bank Story" was the first film that was profiled on MySpace Film. It was a short film which was directed by Ari Sandel of Los Angeles. The film won the Oscar for the best live-action short film at the Academy Awards Sunday.
Sandel was working on his master's degree in film production at the University of Southern California when he created the film. The film itself is the story about David, an Israeli soldier, and Fatima, a Palestinian fast food cashier who love each other while their families end up fighting for business at their falafel stands in Israel. It is a musical comedy.
MySpace decided on "West Bank Story" for the first film profile about a year ago. Since that time over 50,000 filmmakers have used the Web site to promote their films.
Other Oscar-nominated films featured on the site are "Iraq in Fragments" and "Jesus Camp."
