Scripps Networks announced that it will build its own online community for the home and garden channel HGTV, and not go with the giant sites YouTube (GOOG) or MySpace (NWS-A).
The new social network will be called Rate My Room, and will empower the visitors to chat about home budgets, remodeling and projects they're thinking about for the future.
Users will be able to upload photos of the rooms in their house that either need remodeling or have been designed in the recent past. They'll also be able to post to a number of forums, write reviews or rate other rooms that are showcased.
In the not-too-distant future, users will be offered the opportunity to upload their videos to the site from their home computer or mobile camera. They are also in the process of deciding on including other features like blogs, wikis, journals and other niche channels created for specific interests related to the home or garden.

You should check out www.curbly.com, a community for people who love where they live. At Curbly, people can share pictures of their homes, get design inspiration, and connect with experts. We've been online since last November and have a growing community of home-improvement lovers and experts.
