Nick Wilson writing for Search Engine Land has a good article on the game-changing impact on the search engine industry that Google's personalized search will have.
His thoughts are that "'One page fits all' is now a thing of the past. Personalized search is now the default and none too easy to escape from either through opt-out. This means that every search result you click, every link you bookmark, every RSS feed you subscribe to using Google services can be used to improve your personal search results."
He feels so strongly about it that he mentions that it has changed the game so much, that if it isn't adapted to quickly, it could very well be a destructive end.
There are three things offered that should help a lot with these two things kept in mind:
* There is no way at this time to know what will work in the new environment. But the following three insights should be close to the truth.
* These ideas aren't meant to be a "how to rank in Google guide," rather something that should put you in a strong position in the new personalized search page space.
With that in mind, here are the three areas that Nick believes will make a big difference:
1. Optimize For Google Services.
The three major services suggested to socially optimize are Google Personalized Homepage, Google Bookmarks and Google Reader.
2. Optimize For Social Search.
It's not about Digg and other types sites like that to send traffic, rather it's about using them to source content and stories for their own blogs.
3. Optimize For Social Networks.
Identifying and interacting with movers and shakers in the niche you serve through the numerous means out there like a MySpace profile.
