In a move to offer more transparency in their online business that pays bloggers to post about advertisers' products, Payperpost has now created a new button that reveals that the blogger is being compensated for writing about the product.
CEO and founder Ted Murphy said that is move to increasingly allow people to have full disclosure of the process. "The bloggers are happier because it provides them with a clear way to disclose, the readers are happy because it provides them transparency, and the advertiser gets some additional branding from the bubble ad."
With the button is included a rollover ad for the marketer that shows a company logo, along with an invitation for others to get paid for their input about a product. It's what Murphy referred to when talking about additional branding.
Jim Nail, member of the Word of Mouth Marketing Association board of directors, responded to the effort saying, "There's certainly a lot to work with here," adding that concerning consumers understanding the posts are being sponsored, "That's really the only point that matters in disclosure."
When you come right down to it, as long as there's strong effort and openness about what's happening, there's really not much more that you can do. You can't force people to understand something, but you can give them a legitimate and open opportunity to know. In the end there's really not much more you can do.
This is a good step for Murphy and payperpost.
