Nylon Magazine has partnered with MySpace to offer a contest for visitors to vote on their favorite bands across the world. Locations include London, Berlin, Stockholm, New York, Los Angeles, Tokyo, Sydney and Paris.
The band that wins will be put on the June/July cover of the magazine.
While it has been suggested that this could be risky because the winning band could represent some underground band from a smaller country that may not appeal to very many readers, Jaclynn Jarrett, Nylon's publisher, has said that the traffic to the magazine's web site nylonmag.com has quadrupled its traffic in the short two days since the promotion launch.
She added that the MySpace profile page of the company has also increased traffic by 50 times its normal viewing. The company will also be including exclusive
videos on their MySpace.com profile over the next couple of months, while it continues its coverage of the search for the band.
It doesn't seem that the band selected should be a problem for the company, they've probably already received enough back from their campaign to already have made it worthwhile doing.
