With company blogging becoming even more important for those who understand its power, the U.K. has taken action to ensure that "flogs" or phony blogs won't be confused with real ones.
Starting on December 31, 2008, it will be illegal to operate that way in Britain. The U.S. constitution will probably prohibit similar measured being put into effect.
What the law in Britain will do is forbid companies from posting reviews of their products under a different name which makes it look like they're being favorably talked about.
The law will probably even have an impact on authors who do reviews of their books on online sites like Amazon.com.
I don't like this because it seems that the online community has effectively policed itself without needing the help of any government. The uncovering of companies that do this creates the type of backlash that makes it even worse than attempting it in the first place.
