Comcast (CMCSA) and Facebook have partnered so Facebook members are enabled to share their videos via Comcast's Ziddio user-generated video site. It will mark the first time that Facebook will offer video-sharing features to its millions of users, according to Multichannel News.
Facebook has been seeking a partner for this very purpose since last summer. If it works similar to its photo-sharing service, it could also be a big boost for Comcast's Ziddio site.
"We've seen in the market that people are using our share feature and our users
are sharing a huge amount of video," said Owen Van Natta, COO at Facebook. "We're attempting to find a smart way to enable users to do more sharing of videos, rate the videos they're sharing with each other and give them an avenue to be part of this TV show that's going to be produced."
Another element to drive interest is the inclusion of contests and an opportunity to have uploaders videos aired as part of a Comcast's new online and VOD reality TV show called "The Facebook Diaries."
The "Diaries" will be created by urging users to create videos based upon certain topic like work or family, and uploading them to the site. The companies have enlisted veteran TV producer R.J. Cutler to take the videos and remix them into what will result in "The Facebook Diaries." There will be 10 half-hour episodes produced in the beginning. If it becomes popular there are the chances of it becoming a TV show of its own. The contest will be run for 20 weeks and begins in March.
