YouTube has signed a deal with English soccer champions Chelsea that allows them to stream archived footage and daily news of the club. It's the first member of the Premiere League to make this type of deal.
The club will offer their own branded channel on the site, at www.youtube.com/chelseafc. While it will have continuous updates and archived footage, it won't be allowed to stream live coverage because of Premiere League rules.
"We are delighted to work with YouTube," Chelsea Chief Executive Peter Kenyon said. "Chelsea is the first football club to move into what is clearly one of the fastest growing new media platforms.
"This will allow us to ... reach a whole new audience."
This is part of Chelsea's strategy and goal to become the largest soccer club in the world. They have also launched a site in Mandarin in an attempt to broaden their reach to the Asian markets.
