In what had to eventually happen, Comedy Central is now taking original material from its Web site and bringing it to the television on its late-night show, the network announced.
The show will simply be called "Web Shows," and will air for a half-hour at 2 a.m. airing on Mondays. The network ordered six episodes to begin with to see how they do.
"We are a branded content company with a lot of resources and amazing talent online, and to make life easy for all of our audience we're showing a cross-section of this content across platforms to get them excited," said Lou Wallach, senior vp original programming and development at Comedy Central.
Wallach aded that there will be about eight or night 2- to 3-minute shorts during the show, and will feature a character based upon a "rooster" that will narrate and bring the content together.
This is part of the continual push by parent Viacom (VIA-B) to integrate its content across all its platforms.
