The continuing battle over net neutrality was started again as the Senate re-introduced legislation that would prevent internet service providers from charging more for using higher-speed connections.
Olympia Snowe, R-Maine, said that the future of the internet "lies in the hands of its users and not the hands of a few gatekeepers, the tide has turned in the debate between those who seek to maintain equality and those who would benefit from the creation of a toll road on the internet super highway."
The major concern has been that there will be two different internets that will develop. One for the higher-speeds that would be set aside for those companies paying more, which would make their content, and the content of the internet
providers, the prominent content showcased.
The concern is that the Web would lose its democratic strength, and become controlled by the gatekeepers.
