In a move to make expand their "Heroes" franchise, NBC Today (GE) is looking to the Internet to do the job. They are adding original content to the site, along with commentary by the cast members. It sounds a little bit like offering a DVD with add-on material to create incentives to the consumer.
The network is adding the type of information that will cater to the core fan, with details about the pretend world that aren't revealed on TV.
Jeff Gaspin, President NBC Universal Cable Entertainment, Digital Content and Cross Network Strategy said "This is particularly exciting because it's the most
developed TV 360 application we've created for a scripted series, and the first to use this level of interactivity, 'Heroes' has proven itself a hit on-air and online, and these extensions of rich, original content will allow our audience unprecedented access to new levels of the show as they dig deeper."
There will also be included new character development concerning the characters that are always an interest to people that like this genre.
This should be successful with the true fans like I said, because real fans like to dig deeper and get as big a piece of the story and development that is available.
We need to look at this as an example of niche marketing that is created for the real "fan" of the show, product or service we offer. The true fans want "deep," and are willing to spend their time and money mining it.
It launches today.
