With the growth in popularity of online communities, Turner Sports New Media, which holds the interactive rights to Nascar, have redesigned their Nascar.com Web site to include 3-D and offer a place where fans can get together and interact.
With the 3-D application, a user will be able to follow the drivers during the live races. It will look similar to how racing would look on video games. The new online gathering place is called Infield Community.
“Nascar is very excited that with Turner Sports New Media and Sportvision we can once again set new standards for serving the fans with creative, comprehensive, precedent-setting interactive content and experiences,” said Dick Glover, vp of broadcasting and new media, Nascar Digital Entertainment.
This has a lot of potential to me. The nature of watching Nascar on TV lends itself to interactity and online community. The races are long, the action somewhat numbing, and you can take your attention off it for awhile and not miss too much.
It's an excellent idea to be able to follow the drivers via the 3-D application. If you are able to tune into any driver, and not just the leaders, it would be even more valuable.
The 3-D feature, TrackPass RaceView feature will be made available for $12.95 per month or $79.95 per year.
A good idea to create additional revenue streams.
