The First Ad Copy Weapon of Choice - The Headline - 14

These next several posts we'll look at a few headline formulas or templates that people have been using successfully years for years, in some cases decades. The reason they've been around so long? Because they work! Now they can go through seasons of being overused and so should be tweaked occasionally to give it something that separates your headlines from others. Remember that people go all over the internet looking at various things. They see numerous headlines every day.

An important strategy in all marketing is called "social proof." It's simply a way of saying people are more confident other people are doing it. Headlines can be written that take advantage of this need within people.

Social%20Proof%20Consensus.jpgFor example, here are several headlines that can be used as "social proof" to the reader:

Does anybody else want...?
Who else wants...?
Is anybody else ready...?

The types of questions that begin with asking if there's anybody else out there that wants something, implies that others have already joined in. This is important to readers. It gives the reader that there is already a strong desire among many people to enter into whatever it is you're promoting.

Does anybody else want to lose weight?
Who else wants a successful business?
Is anybody else ready to take their marriage to the next level?

The question assumes that others are doing it already. This has a profound impact upon the person reading it. Again, the major challenge is to know that the headline isn't being overused so that you aren't confused in the mind of the reader with someone else.

You can see from the question that it wouldn't be hard at all to ask the question in a different way but get the same results. These types of questions have been top headlines that are still working great for those using them. Make them part of your headline writing arsenal.
