The First Ad Copy Weapon of Choice - The Headline - 10
Should you Write Your Headline First
Is writing your headline first crucial to ad copy success? A lot of people think so. For me, I think for most writers it works better that way.
Writing your headline first doesn't imply that you don't have any ad copy written at the time. The best way to do it is to have an existing outline that you understand will be the bulk of your copy. From there simply take the basic theme you'll be writing about and create your headline based upon that before you start
to forge your ad copy.
The reason why this works so well for so many is that a headline offers a promise to your readers. Remember that a headline is offering a promise to readers that you must deliver in exchange for their time.
What happens is that when you create a headline first, it serves as a compass to guide you while you write your ad copy; it stands before you and helps you to keep your copy relevant and on target.
I and others have found that when you write the headline first, it makes writing quality ad copy much easier. It helps you to structure it better and keep the content tight and focused. While it isn't necessarily an unbreakable rule, it is one tool that the majority of writers use keep their copy sharp.
Remember that a headline is like a door that opens up to the content of your house. The two must be completely integrated to work well. Writing a quality headline first is a good way to make sure that they are.
