In their continuing push to go beyond their successful text-advertising strategy, Google (GOOG) has been testing a new video advertising system in conjunction with music heavyweights Warner Music Group (TWX) and Sony (SNE) BMG Music Entertainment.
A spokesperson for Google said in a statement that "Over the past few months, we have run tests to figure out how we work with our partners and advertisers to combine high quality video content with ads and then distribute them (over) the Google AdSense network."
The video ad system will work different in how it's monetized with advertisements being billed in the traditional method of cost per thousand, against the pay-per-click model used in text advertising by Google. The company has been expanding its efforts beyond text by moving into various other advertising formats like radio, mobile, newspaper and video.
What an online marketer can do with this is take a video channel offered and embed it on their web site where they've put aside space for Google Adsense ads. Visitors will be given opportunities to click on ad-supported videos from there.
Monetization will be split three ways between Google, the online marketer and the video content providers. The specific percentages of the split hasn't been let out yet.
For a number of online marketers it would be a good idea to think in terms of how this could enhance your Web sites or blogs. It'll be another stream of income to add to your online arsenal.
The testing will continue for at least another four weeks.
