In what was considered one of the most desired domain names in Great Britain, UKFast came out on top in their bid to acquire the domain name: servers.co.uk. While the exact numbers weren't given, it was said to be in the five figures and possibly the largest sum paid for a domain in the UK.
Lawrence Jones of UKFast said that he wouldn't sell if for a million British pounds if he were offered it because of the long-term value it represents for the company.
Laura Blizard, marketing manager says "Servers.co.uk offers numerous routes to market in this search driven climate. Key generic names allow closer proximity to product and customer base, whilst dramatically improving association of product to brand identity."
While this may not seem like a lot in comparison to some of the domain names that have received huge prices for them in the U.S., it is still a significant sum. It's a good
reminder that in many cases the foundation to a good online business is in the domain name you select, because of the power of search to make it a highly visited site based upon the domain alone.
Obviously it takes much more than that, but to start of with a quality domain gives you an opportunity for be remembered easy and searched for often.
