It's quite possible that Yahoo! (YHOO) has come up with a real winner as they plan on building a number of niche sites built for the purpose of attracting quality advertising.
Their general strategy is to offer up the types of brands and services that have devoted fan followings or consumer bases. They will also include a social networking element with it as they empower people to find information on the products they're searching for while being able to connect with one another.
While that part is nothing new, where I think they'll do good on is the targeted marketers they're looking for. Their targeting more of a dedicated audience that
marketers are willing to pay higher CPMs for.
Yahoo believes that creating sites around things that attract the more passionate consumer, that the prices willing to be paid for advertising will be higher. I think they're right.
Vince Broady, head of entertainment, games and youth at Yahoo said, "This gives us a lot of freedom to push the envelope with how we integrate advertising into these environments."
They plan on unveiling around 100 brand sites over the next year. They will start slow by offering between 6 and 12 sites during the first half of 2007, adding the rest in the second half of the year.
