With the recent data showing that both YouTube and MySpace are now catering to audiences 35 and older, it's not surprising that they've started to gravitate toward Facebook as their online community of choice.
Among young people between the ages of 17 to 25, Facebook is now the online community choice of destination for this demographic. Over 50% of young women and 35% of young males said it was their favorite site, says emarketer.com citing
Youth Trends.
Josh Weil of Youth Trends says that, "For the first time ever, Facebook was ranked number one among both men and women, based on the findings, Facebook is more than likely to be their first visit of the day."
None of this is surprising as young people seem to be the early adopters for the most part online. And when they make something well-known and popular, it draws the interest of the rest of the population. Evidently the reason why the demographic at MySpace and YouTube is increasing in age.
I wonder how long this will last now that Facebook has eliminated any barriers for people to join the community?
